Default medication change for Adult ADD

Im wondering if anyone has any experience in changing medication for adult ADD. I had taken Ritalin for 8yrs and it effectiveness changed. I recently changed to Concerta and the suspended release I cant seem to get use to. Im just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems after years on the same med. and If the change for non- suspended to suspended release was a problem. I've heard alot about adderal. I'd be greatful for any ideas.

I was diagnosed adult ADHD 3 years ago. My doctor first prescribed Adderall, but it had side effects for me such as jaw clenching & overall tension. Then he switched me to Ritalin which was about as effective as taking candy. I am now on Dexadrine & the newer anit-anxiety med Cymbalta. This combination is great. I really like the Dexadrine & can tell a big difference when I take or don't take my medication. I would also like to mention that books are great. Sari Solden's "Women With ADD" has become my big book for ADD. Hope this helps

I am also on Dexadrine and Cymbalta. works wonders. Dexadrine is by far the best ADD medication on the market without a doubt.

Those that take Dex, have you taken Adderall and can you compare effectiveness and side effects? I am on Adderall and recently tried Concerta. Concerta made me rage like I never have before so I went back to adderall. FYI, Dex is 100% d-amphetamines and Adderall is roughly 75%. Adderall is a mixture of 4 amphetamine salts, 3 slightly different forms of d-amphetamines and 1 l-amphetamine. Adderall has worked great AS LONG AS you dont drink caffeine. ALSO, the generic instant release adderall is BADDDD. I had so many bad side effects from it, but barely any from the XR form.

I was started on methylphenidate time release(don't remember brand) then d-methylphenidate time release (Focalin XR), now im on d-amphetamine time release (dexedrine spansules generic). Hated the first one, was alright until a load of side effects kicked in for the Focalin but d-amphetamine seems to be working like a charm. Never been on or tried Cymbalta, srry. For consideration, if the ADD/ADHD is pretty bad and neither the methylphenidate or amphetamine based treatments are working well enough, you can always try for Desoxyn (d-methamphetamine). Generally speaking, its more effective than any of the other stimulant ADD medications and has a lower side effect profile than the rest at working doses for severe ADD. However, the social stigma may prove to be a hindrance and also, it will probably be a bigger target sign for theft.
