Default Lunesta...The sleep aid

I started taking Lunesta in October. In mid November I started developing these terrible hives that itch and spread from all areas of my body from day to day. Has anyone else out there developed these hives due to Lunesta?
My doctor thinks it's an allerigic reaction to another medication I was taking, and stopped me from taking it, and giving me medication to treat the hives. It's been 4 weeks since I've taken the other medicine (welaburtin XL)and I'm still getting these hives.
I am still taking the Lunesta at night and when I awake in the morning the hives are worse. I read on this website that "hives" is one of the side effects. But, my doctor hasn't mentioned that he might think it's the Lunesta.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, how long did it take to get past it? I'd appreciate any information that anyone can give me. I'm in misery. Thanks!

I've taken Lunesta in combination with Lexapro, and I haven't experienced any hives. I was prescribed Lunesta because I'm having trouble sleeping while on Lexapro. I'm trying to taper off of the Lexapro now.

If you're getting hives from Lunesta it could be either an adverse reaction or an allergy, which you won't be able to just "get past", you'll need to go off. Do bring it up with your doctor and discuss trying an alternative; then you'll know for sure.

I've never heard of Wellbutrin being used to treat hives; it's an antidepressant and smoking cessation aid.

It does sound like an alergic reaction to Lunesta. You might try Rozerem instead. It is another sleep medication approved for long-term use and you may not have the same reaction.

Sundanzer said his/her doctor thought the Wellbutrin caused the hives, not was being used to treat them.

Anyways, you could go off the Lunesta and then you'd know for sure whether it caused the hives - if they stopped! Four weeks seems like plenty of time for the Wellbutrin to be out of your system. Definately tell your doctor about your hives being worse in the morning after you take Lunesta at night.
