Default From Lortab to Ultram

I have been prescribed lortab7.5 to take 4 x's per day (as needed) over a 6 month period. I decided a week ago that they were not working anymore so my doctor said to try ultram but I am afriad I will experience withdraw from the lortab and that the ultram will intensify it. Help! Does anyone know about this type of situation. My doctor assures me it is fine to "cold turkey" the Lortab and go straight into the Ultram. Maybe I should take Ultram at the begining of the day and then take a Lortab 6 hours later and slowly stop the Lortab so I do not have as severe withdraw. Any tips would be helpful.

Just worried...

The good thing about ultram is that it is good for pain but doesn't produce the addictive side effects of the lortab etc. It is a better alternative, but chronic pain medication should be closely evaluated.

Ultram CAN be addictive!
Just ask most street junkies. Sometimes addicts who cannot get ahold of their usual painkiller will take Ultram b/c it seems to relieve the withdrawl symptoms until they can get the good stuff.
McNeil has been fighting any initiative to have Ultram reclassified as a controlled substance.
