Default Lorab - Total Knee Replacement

I had a TKR 6 weeks ago. From the very first week my orthopaedic nurse wanted me to take only tylenol for pain when I got home after having 15 mg. Lortab every 2-3 hours in the hospital. I could not take the pain and got a precription from my general doctor so I could function. I find that I still need 10 mg of Lortab about every 6 hours or I am in too much pain to excercise my knee or do any activity. I also take an Ambien at night to try to sleep at least 5 hours at a time. I am not wanting to become addicted to anything. I just want to be able to live with the pain. Are Ultraset's less narcotic than Lortab? How long will this pain last? No one told me how painful a total knee replacement would be. I am 53 years old.
