Default little help for a new member please. cymbalta.

i'm a 39yo male. history over past 3-4 years of depression and anxiety along with some sleep issues. anyway, i've taken meds like paxil, zoloft, neurontin, mertazapine, effexor. effexor is what i'm being weened off of now. 375mg daily. doctor is making the switch to cymbalta. the reason is some added problems with OCD. mostly picking. i guess my question really is, does this med really help with OCD? i've not seen anywhere where it does. the effexor worked for a while for anxiety and depression. then would stop. dose increased. then no real improvement. now cymbalta is going to be used for anxiety, depression and OCD. any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I made a switch from Effexor 75mg. to Cymbalta 60mg. to help with pain. I really like it and am pretty darned happy. I can't answer the OCD question, though. I do know I obsess a little about mundane things but have not really dwelled on any particular thing. That's not really OCD but I feel very even.

What drugs work the best on OCD?
The six drugs that have been shown to be effective include: fluvoxamine (Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil), citalopram (Celexa), and clomipramine (Anafranil). Anafranil has been around the longest and is the best studied throughout the world, but there is growing evidence that the other drugs are as effective. In addition to these carefully studied drugs, there are hundreds of case reports of other drugs occasionally being helpful. There are reports of small number of patients that suggest that venlafaxine (Effexor) may also be somewhat effective; but there have been no large scale controlled trials done yet.

I was on Zoloft for a few years, then because of my chronic pain and trying non-narcotic treatments for awhile, they switched me to Cymbalta and it did nothing at all for me, either for my pain or my depression or my OCD. These types of drugs are funny that way, for some people they work wonders and for some people not at all.

I went back to Zoloft and now my depression and OCD are under control again.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~
