Lidocaine reaction in infant My first grandchild, a boy, was born with a "tied tongue" and at 3 weeks old my daughter and I took him to an ENT at her pediatrician's recommendation. The doctor had me hold a Q-tip with lidocaine under Jacob's tongue to numb the area needing to be clipped. Seconds later, Jacob went limp. The nurses were running down the halls and the doctor ran out of the room where he was seeing another patient. As I held my limp grandson, the doctor took Jacob's pulse rate. He said that Jacob had had a reaction to the lidocaine which caused his heart rate to slow drastically but that he was alright. He also said that occasionally some infants do have this reaction and it is called "PAUSE".
This incident terrified me. I have searched the Internet for information on this "PAUSE" but have been unable to find anything. Do any of you have any information on the reactions of lidocaine on infants and have you heard of this reaction called PAUSE"?
Thank you so much.
