I have Hepatitus C and monitor my enzymes and viral load. I have type 2b.
I'm currenlty tapering off Lexapro, and I am supplementing the taper with Xanax, which is more the medication appropriate for what I'm trying to treat.

My questions are the following:

1. Can Lexapro raise the liver enzymes? They were higher at my last test.
2. Is Xanax more liver friendly? Can Xanax raise enzymes?
3. I intend to change to Valium for a period of time. What effect does Valium have on the liver?
4. How about Klonopin?

lexapro is metabolized in the liver. it can cause a raise in liver enzymes.
xanax is also processed by the liver but like you say, is more friendly.
i would blame a raise on lexapro

diazepam, clonazepam, alprazolam. they all work the same and are cleared by the liver. they all can cause a transient increase in liver enzymes. with known liver disease it is possible to see longer raises in liver enzymes. liver disorders may also slow the clearing of the medications and lead to more side effects. i think you can use them just have the prescriber check LFTs
