Default Lexapro and Tramadol interactions?

I currently take a daily dose (10mg) of Lexapro and 50mg of Tramadol 3x/day(mostly for depression - it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY). Does anyone know (besides seizures) if there is any danger of taking these 2 together? I've currently had no problems, but have read some contradictory information. Also, is Tramadol safe to take over an extended period of time?

Thanks!

I was about to post a new thread about this combo and saw yours...

I have had chronic headaches, and my PCP (knowing damn well I was on 20mg lexapro) gave me a scrip for tramadol (ultracet). The pharmacist refused to fill it, citing a severe reaction (seizures and/or serotonin sickness). I wound up getting something else instead.

Fast forward to a couple of months later. I've been referred to a neurologist for the headaches, and after trying various different pain medications and then immitrex (and similar), he tried putting me on relafen 2x a day with vicoprofen for break through pain. This in and of itself was not a good idea, and it REALLY screwed up my stomach.

So he gave me Vicodin ES instead, but it has so much tylenol in it, I can take it but have to wait 6 hours to take it again (and my headaches last a minimum of 5-6 hours ). So I called and asked if there was an alternative (mind you, I waited TWO WEEKS to hear back) and he prescribed ultram (ultracet w/o the apap). I immediately called the pharmacist and she confirmed that it was not something she recommended taking together. So she left a message with my doctor - who calls the pharmacist back AFTER A WEEK, but gets a different pharmacist who was ok with the combo.

I spoke to the pharmacist at length about it. She said she'd never heard of a reported problem with the two, and that it was mostly a case of the pharmaceutical companies covering their ass. So, I decided to try it out.

I took it yesterday (2x50mg) and had no adverse effects. Today, I had to take it again, and I just had the scariest experience of my life. All the sudden my vision had a really bright spot in it (like I had looked into the sun), and it slowly was growing to take up about 1/3 of my vision!!! I immediately went inside and sat down and luckily nothing else happened. But I read online that a grand mal seizure can sometimes have an "aura" phase, but not progress to the tonic-clonic phase - e.g. no convulsions/etc.

So I don't know if I had a partial seizure or what, but it freaked me the hell out and I am NOT taking the tramadol again.

If you're not experiencing any problems, I think you're fine. Note also that you're only taking 10mg lexapro and 50mg (per dose) tramadol, so it's probably less likely to cause issues for you.

But I thought I'd chime in here. I for one am scared to take the two together again.
