Default Lexapro: any positive reports out there???

Hi, I have been taking lexapro for depression for 3 weeks now. Because I am very sensitive to certain drugs and had some extreme side effects in the first couple days, my doctor suggested I only take 2.5mg in the morning and 1.25mg in the evening (which really seemed to help). I am already feeling a lot better: don't feel as depressed, don't dwell on things like I used to, somewhat more energetic. Although I still have my moments, I feel I am more relaxed in general. I am still struggling with insomnia, but trazadone is helping with that.

After doing some searching about lexapro on this forum I have becomed quite concerned about all the negative postings about this drug. I thought this was really helping me so far but now I am paranoid that I will experience some of the side effects that others are reporting.

Has anyone had a GOOD experience with lexapro? Did anyone NOT gain weight or have other horrible side effects? It seems like this drug has been nothing but a terror for some people. I was feeling good about things until I read all the nightmare posts from others and now I am scared! Thoughts???

Lexapro has two major uses like it can be used for major depression and second, it can be used for generalized anxiety disorder.

Usually Lexapro causes restlessness, feeling excited and not able to control the excitedness. It also interacts with certain drugs. You can have a look at the list of drugs that interact with Lexapro at (http://www.internationaldrugmart.com/lexapro.html)

I was on 10 mg of Lexapro for 2 1/2 years until I started tapering off a week and a half ago. The ONLY negative side effects I had on the Lexapro were the weight gain and the sexual side effects. In all other respects, my life was amazing. But I no longer wish to deal with these side effects and that is the only reason I am going off the Lexapro. Other than this, the Lexapro was an amazing thing for my life.

Lori Jo thanks for sharing your experience. I am going to continue using Lexapro at 5 mg because so far it really seems to be helping me. I do experience some of the minor side effects and am going to continue monitoring my weight. At this point in time the positive effects of the drug are outweighing the negative. I just got so worried when all I was reading about from discussing boards were negative things about lexapro....

I was on lexapro for 8 months..it killed my sex-drive with my girlfriend, I had major mood-swings, but I've heard that it's different for everybody. Some ppl don't get the side-effects, and end up being on it for life. It's good to check it out and see what happened to other ppl, but just see if it works for you.
