Default Lasix damaging to kidney??

I have a slight problem with my kidneys as a result of Lupus. As a result of other problems my doctor put me on Lasix to reduce fluid retention. I was recently told that lasix is effective in reducing the fluid but in the process is actually damaging the kidney. Is this a fact? If so how serious is this type of damage and how long can I continue to take Lasix?

I took lasix for a few months and nothing happened to my kidneys. I have never heard that before. I do know that lasix can elevate cholesterol levels. That happened to me.
