Lamisil Dosage

My MD has prescribed 12 weeks of Lamisil (Terbinafine HCl) 250 MG TA for Toenail Onychomycosis.

My question goes to the dosing regimen that was prescribed:

First seven days of each of four consecutive months take two 250 mg tablets per day, balance of month nothing.

Is this unusual? Is this acceptable?

The dosage of LAMISIL® Tablets is one 250-mg tablet each day. For onychomycosis of the toenails, treatment time is 12 weeks of therapy with LAMISIL® Tablets.I don't know why your doctor wants you to take as prescribed,but i would sure call and find out...

As a feedback to you and others on this forum with respect to non-typical dosing regimens of LAMISIL® (Terbinafine HCl), I have found from local pharmacists, and the manufacturer of Lamisil (Novartis) the following:

Dosing of two 250 mg tablets for seven consecutive days of each of four consecutive months, balance of each month take nothing, IS an acceptable practice, at the discretion of the prescribing MD. It is in effect a "shock treatment" approach which has had very good success.
