It is important that you and your daughter's doctor weigh up the benefits of
Lamictal treatment as well as the risks of using it. Unfortunately there is no way of predicting whether side effects will occur.
The most common side effects include dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision, lack of coordination, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and rash.
Rashes may be mild to moderate, or more serious. Serious skin reactions are most likely to happen within the first 8 weeks of treatment, and more often in children under 16 than in adults. Rashes may also be more likely to occur if Lamictal is taken in combination with valproic acid (brand names are Depakene and
Depakote).
There are two versions of Consumer Information available at Drugs.com which may help (Consumer Information and Advanced Consumer Information).
If you wanted more detailed information you will find a table in the PDR Professional Information at Drugs.com called:
Table 7. Treatment-Emergent Adverse Event Incidence in Placebo-Controlled Adjunctive Trials in Pediatric Patients With Epilepsy (Events in at least 2% of patients treated with LAMICTAL and numerically more frequent than in the placebo group.)
which details the incidence of side effects in children compared to a placebo (no treatment).
Good luck.
