Klonopin is a Roche's brand name for Clonazepam. Clonazepam is a benzodiazapine, in the same family as Valium and Ativan. It is generally perscribed for treatment of general anxiety disorder, panic disorders and the management of seizures. It is a CNS depressent like all benzodiazapines, with Klonopin going mg for mg with alprazolam (Xanax) in potencey, and being roughly 20x as effective as valium (i.e. 1mg klonopin is roughly equal to 20mg valium). Like most benzodiazapines it is a schedule IV controlled substance in the U.S., and is availiable only by perscription.
