Default Just started On Fentanyl (Patch) HELP!!!

Hi Everyone,
Hope all is well with everyone.
I am having a bit if what I consider a major problem. Yesterday at my monthly visit with my rhuemy, he decided to changed me from 80mg oxycontin 3 x a day to the patch. I don't understand the dosage, but it says
"10 Ic FENTANLY 100 MCG/HR PATCH MTL". I put the patch on about 18 hrs ago. Anyway, I am totally messed up. I can't walk a straight line, can't see straight, can't think straight. I see things that are not there and say things that make no sense at all. Is any of this normal, and will it go away in time. I am feeling some relief from the pain. The big reson for the swich was constipation, and I am already improving in that area. Hope it lasts. Any, any, any info you might have about the patch would be so great.
Thanks so much

Hi,your doctor has given you fentanyl patch to help you cope with your chronic pain. This is a much better opiate then the oxy's and what you are experiencing will fade away within a week or two.The patch comes in 25,50,75 and 100mcgs so he's got you on the strongest one.If you find the side effects don't settle down then go to your doctor and he can order you a lower dose patch......Good luck...Dave

Thanks Dave,
I am very releaved to hear these effects I am feeling will most likely go away. I have been informing myself about pain meds for 3 years now, unfortunatly, so I know what the patch is for, just didn't know anyone who has used it. Have you used the patch yourself? If you have, do you mind if I ask a few more questions? This has all caught me by surprise.
Thanks![8D]

Peace

I haven't used the patch although it is an option if I want to use it.The patch is becoming more and more popular because it's safe and easy to use.Fentanyl is much stronger than morphine or oxycontin......Dave

The doctor did give you the strongest dose. Some people have complained that the fentanyl doesn't really last for the full 72 hours. Some people have been given the patch prescribed for every 48 hrs. for that reason. So keep that in mind as you speak to your doctor and see how you become adjusted to the medication.
