How to drop dosage from Methadone to Morphine Hi,
I take 60 mg of Methadone in pill form daily for chronic pain.
I also am alowed to take 15 mg of Morphine IR twice a day
for breakthrough pain.
I'm starting to feel better & would like to try just the Morphine instead of any Methadone.
My question is: would I go into withdrawal if I took just the 30 mgs of the Morphine IR daily? If so, how much Morphine IR would I need to take to counter- act any withdrawal? I guess what I'm trying to ask is: what is the conversion rate for
60 mg of Methadone to ?? of Morphine IR?
Thank you,
Bama -
you sure would.
in my using days, both of those drugs were my drugs of choice, and if i had the choice between bangin 30mg of morphine, and 30mg of methadone, i would definately have the methadone coz it would hold me a lot longer.
why not just drop the morphine for now.?? then as you continue to feel better, take less methadone.?
just an idea,
good luck

Thanks for the reply Cheeky,
The reason I wanted to get rid of the Methadone is that it causes me to crave sweets! Terribly! So...I've put on a few pounds.
I actually have stopped taking the Morphine & hadn't felt any withdrawal, but I still
have some left. I'm new to Methadone. I knew it was strong, but wasn't sure how
it stacked up against the Morphine.

hey bama,
oh hell i hear ya on the pounds, i put on a ton of weight while on methadone, i know some people say, no it doesnt make you crave sweets, but i reckon thats bs.
hope it goes well for ya anyway, yeh, methadone stacks up, and has a long half life, thats maybe why your doc put you on it, it will hold you longer for sure, than morphine.
morphine, comes on quick, doesnt last long
methadone,, takes its time, lasts longer.
good luck
