Default Help with a question please

I need help on a question. My story in short. Majory back issues. Went to detox from ms contin and methadone with Suboxone at the end as it was causing family problems and I hated being on meds. I was on them for 3 years. MS contin for 2 and methadone for 1. After detox My pain was so hard to deal with in the legs that I started to take the ms contin again and I can see what the issues are. MS contin has made me paranoid and withdrawn from people. So my question is: I have not tried anything else other then ms contin and methadone, Is there another pain med that will help me that will not have these side effects? I hate to feel this way and I have to get back to work. I'm 47 and have a family to support and right now I have to take meds to survive and work. Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

I'm so sorry that you're in such pain. I know the feeling. I'm 32 and have a 3year old plus living with my in-laws, and on top of that I'm ALWAYS in pain.
I can't seem to get by without taking vicodin everyday. I'm thinking vicodin is a little less strong than ms contin, so maybe you won't have the same side effects? I had a pain doctor once put me on elavil for pain management and looking back I think it really helped, it's one of those low-level antidepressents, so not as strong as something like cymbalta. Maybe ask about the antidepressent route, but you need something to get thru right now, so if I can think of anything else i'll write back. And question: did suboxone not help with the pain all that much? Hang in there, you're not alone!

Hi Jenny
Vicodin is like candy to me. my pain is so bad it makes me cry. I got out of detox and had to wait 4 days to have a trial stimulator in my back for a week and the pain was so bad I never slept and could never find any comfort. As of today its been 3 days that I had had the stimulator in and it works good for some of the leg pain but now it has to come out on thurs and I need to get back to work. So thats why I need to get back on the meds. Suboxone is not being used for pain management right now but maybe sometime soon as I asked that. It worked very well for me and I wanted to give it a try even thought it just came out in 03 and they don't know to much about it pluse the Dr's have to be certified to issue it to you. I through in the towel and started back on the mscontin for now until I see my Dr on thurs. I just wanted to see if anyone else had any issues like I did. Thanks again. I will also look at the meds you have listed but I need a opiate to control the pain. PS I'm on effexor right now which is a antidepressent also.

There are ;ots of other pain meds out there for you to try.Have you been on the patch????Duragesic patch is a slow release fentanyl patch and is very successful with chronic pain.
One thing i would like to know is what daily dose of methadone were you on and what dose of ms contin are you on now.
I agree that vicdin, percocet ect are useless for chronic pain as all that ends up happebning is you take to many because they get weak very quickly.
I went 23 years on every opiate you can think of and methadone worked best.for the last 5 years i have been on it i have pretty good pain control.Good luck.......Dave

The Fentanyl patch(aka Duragesic) is far better than morphine in every way: 100 times stronger and far less side effects with higher doses. The patch lasts 3 days but takes 3-5 days for the initial dose to accumulate in the blood. I really dont understand why Dr's wont Rx this more.

I was on 35mg of methadone (only 9 months) and right now I'm taking 30mg mscontin 3 times a day. When I was taking it before ( 2 years) I was taking 180mg a day. Methadone was very hard to get off of. It lasts the longest of any drug as far as withdrawls.
