Default Headache med question

I have been on the losing end of a battle with some nasty a$$ headaches for the past year. Doc started the blood pressure meds, no help, he then gave ultram(?) for pain relief. The ultam tore my stamach up and I just suffered for two months before my wife made me go back in. The headaches have not stopped and are getting worse. I have done the MRI and that has only shown enlarged sinus cavities. His last attempt to help is Fiorianl. I took two today and it dulled my head for maybe a half an hour. I felt looped out and had a hard time working. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I am a 34 year old male who is at his wits end. The current headache I have has been going on for three plus days and sleep is just not possible.

Thanks

Sounds like you have migraines. I know,I have them too. Mine last 3 days. Didn't your doctor suggest this? There are a number of preventative meds on the market. My doctor prescribed Imitrex. You have to take these kinds of meds as soon as you feel the headache start or they won't work. Even then, it doesn't always work. When it doesn't work, I take Hydrocodone, which I take for other chronic pain I have. I have MS, so I have lots of different kinds of pain, but just started with the migraines last year. Don't know what they are from, neither does my doctor. I'm female, so could be menopause, which I'm sure is not your problem...! I'm trying a new natural herb (butterbur). You need to take this for at least a month to get it in your system before it starts to work. It's suppose to lessen the frequency and severity of the migraines by 60%. Just started it about 2 weeks ago, so don't know yet if it will work. I just had a nasty migraine last week, so I know it isn't working yet. I hope this has been some help. I know how terrible those headaches can make you feel. Good luck!

You might wanna try Midrin or Butalbital/APAP, or you could just ask for pain killers and start off low like Darvon or Darvocet, but they dont really work that great. So maby something like Codiene or Vicodin. I use Midrin to try and prevent it from getting worse and then if that doesnt prevent it from getting worse or dull the pain I have to take the Vicodin and that always works. And sometimes you could take a Advil with these medications to help.

I have long lasting migaines as well.I attend the Headache Clinic tailored especially for people with constant migraines. My headaches seem to be to the fact that I have osteoarthritis. I get cortisone injections about every 6 weeks. They seem to work except the last set of injections were quite painful do to excessive imflamation, in the joints. I also take Maxalt a drug from the triptan class of drugs that seem to ease my daily headaches , but I end up taking Thoriazine for the ones that last days and days. That works really well for me because after I fall asleep I feel better in the morning quite sore from all the pounding but a new person never the less. Hoe this helps
