Default Have some questions on Xanax and tolerance.

I've been prescribed Xanax for panic attacks over the years. They've been rare- like 1-2 per year. No big deal. 0.5mg tablet, once per day when it happens seems to help. My last prescription of 30 lasted me years.

Recently things have gotten slightly worse. A bad streak in life, and I don't handle those well. My doctor gave me more Xanax and said I'd be ok to take it more often. Like once per day as things are bad. I don't plan on making this a lifetime thing.

Now, my personal stuff aside- I'm getting conflicting info on a few things:

1. Does one gain a tolerance quickly to Xanax? Will 0.5mg stop helping pretty quickly?

2. How addictive is it (physical, psychological, etc.)?

I'm very anti-psych-drug. I don't want to need drugs, but in the low amount I take, and my ability to stop once things get better works for me. I am afraid of needing more and more quickly, and needing Xanax when things are not at all bad.
