Default Has anyone taken/heard of Oxyfast?

I have what is called short gut syndrome because of several intestinal surgeries, if I take meds by mouth they pass through my system too fast, and they just don't work. If I have to have antibiotics I usually have to have them by IV. I also have a genetic bleeding disorder so I cannot take any NSAIDS . It really makes having cronic pain pretty horrible.

So I have to take pain meds in a different form, right now I am on Fentanyl patches (50mcg every 48 hours) and for break thru I have been given Oxyfast (also called Oxydose). It is a liquid, that comes in a tiny bottle and you take it with a dropper. I have looked all over this site (and others) and I cannot seem to find anyone else who takes this.

For me it has been a lifesaver. Just wondering why it is not talked about or prescribed more?

Thanks, Mom24boys

Sure I've heard about it and know a little about it. It's not prescribed much just because there's not a great medical need for it, for those that can't tolerate oxycodone in pill form can usually take a capsule, they can be opened up and poured into food. Another reason as you can imagine is, it's abuse potential, it's an IV drug users dream.

Another option for CP that may work for you but they're quite costly are the Actiq Fentanyl Pops or you may be able to take a sublingual such as Fentora (Fentanyl lozenge). I imagine the Oxyfast is also expensive.
