Default Fentynal 100mcg patch vs Methadone

I need some info, I am on 100 mcg of fentynal and have been for several months. I recently moved from Ca. to Az. and had to change docters i was getting about 60 hrs of pain relief per patch, witch has aloud me to move without pain and actually lose wieght (able to move off the couch or bed and actauly get things done before the patches i couldn't even tie my shoes). My previous Dr. didn't tell me how dangerous these patches were and that over time you can build up a tolerance to them, on top of that, i had a pain Dr. do several treatments that couldhave paralysed me. So now my new Dr. in Az, has scared the ******** out of me. 1st telling me about the patches and how you can build up a tolerance to them, then having me go through an MRI that shows why i have my pain and what the pain Dr. in Ca. could have done to me. My New Dr. was right and im getting to where the patches are only lasting 48 to 50 hrs or they fall off too early do to sweating (witch by the way can triple the dose of Fentynal in your body, causing an overdose). I trust Him more than my doctors in Ca. But (and here's my question) He wants to switch me to Methadone. This drug scares me too, i have a Heroin junky sister who was on methadone to get her off the Heroin and all it seemed to do was make her sleep for long periods of time, im a stay at home dad and cant have that. Has anyone made this switch and or do i need to find an alternative to both of these? i would like to hear some feed back. My new Dr. has given me a couple of physical therapy devices to help correct my pain but i will still need drugs to help for several months to a year maybe more.

    Thanks

It all comes down to how long you plan on using medication. Will you be on opiate pain medication for life or will you be trying to stop at some point? If it's for life you're best off with methadone I don't think there is much doubt at all. If it's not for life, then you would have to make some other choices.

I hate fentanyl. I think it should only be used for terminally ill patients. But if you want to get off and don't plan on using pain meds for life I can still help you. Let me know. God bless.
