Does the fantanyl patch have the same effects as oxycontin, like the drugged out feeling. The only reason I ask is I don't need to look or feel high at work. But the meds I am on ms-contin and oycotin don,t seem to work and do give me that drugged out appearance, thanx 3 discs

Hi, I just read your post about fentanyl patches and have not been able to get a straight anwer as yet. First here's my history, 5 years ago I was in a really bad accident that crushed several vertebraes, they rebuilt me using titanium rods and plates and now I am in chronic back pain 24/7 on a 1-10 scale with the meds I am on now I am around a 6-8 depending on the day and my activities.Anyways I was put on vicodins and quickly developed a tolerance where I was taking a dozen 10/325mgs per day, that worked for a long time but I knew it was destroying my liver so I asked to be put on something else..Oxycontins 80 mgs 3X/day was the magic number and I dont think that 3 small pills was overloading my liver cause my liver panels checked out OK. Then my damn insurance no longer covered oxycontins and I didnt know what to do or go, I knew the wihtdrawls were going to be hell on earh so I went for the 27 day methadone detox program,naturally that turned into a 6 month program cause they only care about keeping for the rest of your life and were reluctant to let me wean off myself, I even got to te point where I was spitting back out half of my dose when the nurse turned her back,I am now at 7 mgs of methadone (down from a 100mgs./day!!!!)
For breakthrough pain I was and still am taking 5 vicodins a day which take the edge off but not the dull constant throb. My doc suggested either morphine 100mgs or dilaudids or fentanyl patches, I have been on the morphine sulphates for a month noow and they dont do squat for me pain wise,so now I have to chose between the fentanyl patches or the dillautid..
Now I have heard of horror stories about both of these drugs..Can anybody advise as to one which is the strongest and gives you the best buzz that you
can go through the day witout getting the withdawls ? Patches or diluadid?
The morphine sulphate 100mgs X3/day dont even touch the pain and I dont even feel a slight buzz except from being tired all the time, I know that I will be taking pain meds for the rest of my life so I would rather pick the right combination the first time aroun raje.....peace,Alan
