Default Endocet

Hello,

I was recently prescribed Endocet for an up-coming leg surgery.

The bottle itself says; Endocet 5/325 Tablet
And there is 30 tablets of them.

My question is; I had asked the doctor while he was writing the prescription
out on his desk if the medication he was going to prescribe was Oxycotin,
because the name he mentioned sounded like one I had heard before, a medication that also is known as oxycotin I mean. And he said no.

But after looking up Endocet, I see that it appears it is Oxycotin, just a different name for the same drug.

I'm rather worried about this medication as I've heard if/when you stop taking it, you will have very bad withdrawal symptoms.

I'm going in for a approximately 1 hour procedure, the leg surgery itself I don't think will be anything major. But it will be painful of course.

I'm wondering if what I was prescribed is the best decision for me, considering how additive this medication is supposed to be, and also the side effects once you stop taking it.

Also I don't know why I have 30 tablets, as I wouldn't take it for longer than one to four days tops if that much. I'm sure there might be some pain later, but I intend to just deal with that, rather than be on some drug for weeks.

Am I ringing an alarm over something that isn't as bad, considering my short term use? And why 30 tablets? Am I going to have to have withdrawal from this when I stop it?

FYI: The directions say 1 to 2 tabs every 4 hours. I'm to start 2 hours before surgery.

Endocet is generic Percocet and contains oxycodone and acetaminophen, and is an IR (immediate release), Oxycontin's generic name is Oxycodone ER (extended or controlled release), the only big difference is it's a CR. All opioids are addictive, the stronger, the more addictive, and oxy is strong. If you only take 30 pills and use for less then 2 weeks you shouldn't become dependent on them. Oxy is an excellent analgesic, but drug abusers have given it a bad name, don't be afraid to use it, there's no reason to endure pain because you're afraid of withdrawals, I doubt you'll have any, 30 pills is only about a 4 day supply taken as directed anyway.
