Default Elavil side effect

I was recently perscribed Elavil for insomnia. I have restless leg syndrom as a side effect, which in turn keeps me awake all night. Has anyone else had this side effect?[?]

Be careful. I was on elevil for over a year. I now have a back muscles that gives me chronic pain & has stopped me from doing normal household chores, like walking for a long distance or standing. This is now a permanent condition. I'm now on a tens unit. The doctors won't admit this is the cause but upon reading abt elavil on some other sites, elavil is the culprit.

I have been on elevil for 15 years, and have had NO problems at all. I was prescribed this med along with ineral, for migraines. It works and am thrilled with results.

Resless leg syndrome is not a side effect of this drug. However there are many side effects from elavil that can make your legs act up. Restlessness, tardative dyskenesia ( which can make you have frequent movements without control), seizures, and weakness of the extremeties. Another side effect is insomnia. I would definatly talk to your DR and find out why he chose this drug. There are many meds out there for retless leg syndrome that will make you legs stop moving and have you sleep through the night Mirapax is actually one of the best for this problem. I think you should consider seeing a sleep specialists they can help you clear up both of these problems.

Restless Legs Syndrome has been linked to tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline belongs to this group of drugs). There is a lot of information on the internet. Try searching google.com for "tricyclic antidepressants" "restless legs".
