Default Effexor XR and Zyprexa

I have battled anxiety and depression for over 15 years. I was originally given prozac which saved my life and I had very few reoccuring episodes until this past year. Most of the past year I have been depressed. My doctor put me on Effexor XR and I felt better for a few weeks but the depression came back in full force so now he has started me on Zyprexa along with the Effexor XR and I feel like a million bucks. I have energy, I feel more sexual and I feel my thinking is much more clear. The only thing that scares me is the possible weight gain. I have recently lost 30 lbs and since starting the Zyprexa have gained back about 9 of that. I take 225 MG Effexor XR and 2.5 MG Zyprexa. Will the weight gain normalize? Is this feeling too good to be ture? All I hear on these forums are horror stories. Does anyone have anything good to say about these drugs?

Hi There,

I myself are on the same two medications. I feel fantastic also. But the weight gain from Zyprexa has become a big joke as I am rapidly putting on weight. My eating habits have gone back to normal and I am not eating or snacking like I used too, but it hasn't made any difference. I am now in the process of changing over to seroqual which is suppose to work as good as Zyprexa but without the side affects of weight gain. This is only my first week on the new medication so i will see how things go. Hope this helps.
