Default Effexor Help

My friend is taking Effexor (not XR). He only takes it Monday through Friday and doesnt on the weekends. I advised him that it is very dangerous to start and stop medications so abruptly and that it is intended to be taken as the label states. He experiences dizziness from time to time which passes quickly. His claim is that the doctor told him it was ok if it worked for him. Is this a health risk to him or am i just overreacting? Please help.

Hi There,

Stopping and starting this medicine I would think is not a very good thing to do. The dizziy spells are definatly a withdrawel sign I would definalty see another doctor because it doesn't sound right that he can just stop and start.

Hi labennett-
I take Effexor XR and have done a lot of research on it. I know from reading that it has one of the worst withdrawal syndromes of any anti-depressant. So I wouldn't be surprised if your friend is experiencing discomfort when he stops taking his medicine. He should definitely talk to his doctor or do some research on it. HOpe that helps!
