Does Xanax create a "memory" in your system? I quit it for 3 years, then had it prescribed a couple of weeks ago. It is like you were never off it. I got suicidal ideations, but they
had me on 7 different kinds in about 15 months..lexapro, buspar, amitripaline (sp?), xanax, and so on...I would take one of them a few months - get a bad reaction and the next day I would be on another kind of SSRI. I hated it. I am lucky, I don't seem to get addicted. I just
quit one day. Threw all of them away and tried to get my brain back.
Like an alcoholic...you are just one drink away from being an alcoholic again (so I am told).
They wanted to put me on it and I protested. My new pain dr. wasn't in, so his nurse said to try it. I took two of the one mg and didn't like it. A couple a days later I took .5mg and really reacted.
I wonder if these drugs have some kind of effect on us that could bring about an "instant recall" for our senses?
They make me feel horrible, I flushed the entire bottle. I don't EVER want to take any SSRI or Benz-a whatever Xanax is. It is depressing for me.
Anyone else get off this stuff, then come back after 2 or 3 years????
Thanks for any info.....

Even though you have quit for a long time (Congrats) , You could have higher constitution whnen it comes to quiting. But I know since the 1st time in rehab, (its been a lot ,dont ask untill now, this very minute, my tolerance hasnt ever, one, NOT EVEN after going 4-6 months dry, mixed in with years of constant and persistant hard core use, started at grass, that grew to mushrooms and LSD. I did enough LSD for everyone!!!!
Even now, I havent done an OC in like 3 wks, it would still take 3 or 4 to get what I the addict wants. I have an ultimate tolerance. Almost like I broke my senses with drugs so now my tolerance never goes down. I did more when I was younger. But it still takes the same amount. I also have been taking Klonopin for the last 6-7 years. I could eat my whole script and not get "High" then when you take your meds like your supposed to, you wont have too much problems.
So, Maybe that is kind of how you are with Zanax ? Is there a
"Lifetime Tolerance?

Makisupa,
Hang in there. I have an adult daughter who mom (my ex wife) gave her drugs at 12. She was in an institution for over a year. She got out and it got worse. Too long a tale of woo to cover here, but the DEA caught her with OVER a kile of coke. She turned her boss over and the gang nearly killed her...only a car driving up in the restaurant parking lot stopped the guy from slitting her throat after he cut her up. She disappeared. No one could find her. I called the US Marshall's office and told them who I was, who she was and could they please tell her to call or email me. They denied knowing her, etc.
She called from a private line later that day. Said she was ok, in a hospital and would be gone for "awhile". I said "I love you, be careful" and she was gone. She was..maybe 18 or so at that time.
Many years later...she has her own business and just sold it for over a million dollars profit. Fairy tales can come true. I get to see her
once a year, briefly, but we don't call her, we mostly email to her many email addresses. I don't know her name, location, etc and I don't want to know. I am just glad she is ok for now.
Soooooooooo moral of the story is you too can come back if you fight for it.
As for Xanax, I was shocked at how I felt after only a two of the one mg pills and then a .5mg pill. I flushed the rest.
I AM lucky. I did SSRIs, Xanax, and several other legal drugs for over a year and just quit cold turkey one day. I hate them.
Morphine..I am on Avinza. 409 days now. I dropped from 180mg a day
to 90mg in one or two days. At 60 mg I hit withdrawals.
When they figure out how to keep me breathing, they want to insert a morphine pump, Medtronics I think. Problem is...my hind brain forgets to tell me to breathe. Twice during the Bronchoscopy I quit breathing,
they had to pull the camera out of my nose (YUK), then put an oxygen mask on me...yell in my ear to breathe....get me breathing again, then start all over. The dr. told my wife to get me off the morphine before it kills me. Some people can do drugs, some can't. Luckily, so far,
at age 61, I never did ANY drugs before this, never smoked, drank or anything. But I seem to be able to walk away from it for the moment.
Well...at least down to 60mg of morphine. I am on Kadian as of today.
100mg a day.
I wish you luck on your problem there. I have got on my knees many a time and thanked the Lord I can quit so easy...SO FAR.
I emailed the FDA about my question, they will contact me shortly and I will let you know what they say.
Wish we weren't here doing this.
