Difference in pain-killers? Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and have a question. I apologize if it's already been covered elsewhere. I'd like to know the difference between oxycodone and hydrocodone as Percocet v. Vicodin? Why does a dr. prescribe one over the other?
Thanks for any help and info. you can give.

Sue.. vicodin is not as strong as percocets. hydrocodone is a schedule 2 drug while percocets are schedule 1. you would take less of percocets than vicodin to get the same pain relief. i think doctors try with the vicodins first to see if it eliminates the pain and if it doesnt then they move to something a little more potent. for me the vicodin didnt last very long.. it would only last 2-3 hours and the pain starts coming back. i haven't tried the percocets yet but hopefully it lasts the full 6 hours. also another thing.. hydrocodone is synthetic and i think the oxycodone is not. -
hydrocodone is schedule 3 and percocet(oxycodone $ aceteminophen)is schedule 2. percocet is a little more potent -
