Default difference in norvasc and lopressor

helloooo!!!...i just wanted to ask if someone ould tell me please...if norvasc and lopressor were the same kind of drug...i am on norvasc 7.5mg dly ...with most horrible case of (GERD) possible...last night i had terrible pressure in my chest and throat and my blood pressure shot up and i had to go to the ER..where they gave me lopressor and ativan by IV...immediately the pressure went away and my bp came down...just wondered what the difference in the 2 drugs were...and is this something that can be added to norvasc..to keep this from happening again...thanks dana

norvasc is in the class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers.
    Lopressor is a beta blocker.
It is perfectly ok to take both medications. Altough they are used for the same purpose, to lower blood pressure, they work in different ways and are ok to take together.

i guess i need to address your question better. it would not make since to add atenolol if norvasc did cause this problem. it sounds to me like you have some underlying conditions that you may want to seek advise from your doctor about.
