Diazepam act longer than the other.
It can be important if you take them for a long time.

hey leelee001:
let`s see. Both lorazepam(Ativan) and diazepam(Valium) are benzodiazepines, so im assuming that the aspect u are asking if they`re different is probably : which works best and which one is safer i assume...
Even though myself I preferred and still do prefer Ativan over ANY benzo(including Xanax)...It`s less tiring, you don`t feel much different as groggy;dizzy(IMHO-i am describing lorazepam`s effects on me), but there is also a bad side of it: since lorazepam is relatively short-acting benzo it requires more often resoding, unlike Valium, therefore leading to a quicker addiction.
Personally, I can take 120 mg of diazepam(Valium) and not feel s#$%^t..wierd..
So far go with valium-its easier to taper off from
P.S. Dont abuse BENZOS,the WD is a nice lady!!!

Anyway, as everyone else has already said, they are in the same drug class, which means, under the FDA requirements of bioavailabilty, they work the same way on the same stuff. Some of them, you just need a higher dose to reach the same effect that you would on a lower dose of the others.

Thus, some doctors who prescribe them prefer one over the other, as they can prescribe less and at a lower dosage.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~
