Diarrhea caused by Maalox

A friend of mine who should not take Milk of Magnesia went to see a physician for relief of chronic constipation which has been constant over a year now. She is experiencing upper abdominal pain as well as lower back pain. She was prescribed generic Maalox. Immediately she experienced stomach pain and diarrhea. She has had diarrhea for four days to present and refuses to take any more generic Maalox. She asks whether this generic Maalox is similar to Milk of Magnesia. She feels her condition is not being taken seriously. Any helpful comments or previous relevant experience?

Maalox will definitely give you the runs. I remember whwen I had ulcers snd drank it like it was water only to cause terrible runs and cramps. I would think that if she is no longer experiencing constipation she shouldn't have to take it anymore.

Maalox is an antacid, it’s active ingredients are alumina and magnesia. This kind of meds are mainly prescribed for hyperacidity in GI tract. Maalox can cause diarrhea as a side effect, but it's not indicated for constipation. Why wouldn't she try laxatives? There are many different types of these drugs.
