Default Depression from new meds?

I had to go to the hospital the other night for severe sciatic pain. I have been dealing with it for about 6 weeks and I was using Motrin to help with the pain. At the hospital, the Dr. prescribed me Methylpred 4mg 6 day pack, Methocarbamal 750mg, and Ketrolac 10mg. This was yesterday when I took the first dose of all of them. Last night after taking the meds, I was having extreme anxiety and severe depression. Same thing this morning when I took the same doses again, Extreme depression. I have been depressed anyways from the injury, but nothing compared to what I have been going through last night and today. I am stopping the meds until I see my Dr. Has anyone had depression from any of these meds or heard of it as a side affect. It is scaring me really bad..

Just hang in there for a week or so, take your meds and if your depression or anxiety doesn't start going away get your doctor to write you a prescription for depression and/or anxiety. Sciatica is enough to give you a bad case of depression anyway you probably should have already been on meds for the anxiety/depression. That's a very painful and debilitatating condition and can cause some major depression while you're going throughout the course of it. Take care and God bless you and speed your healing.

The methypred is a steroid and they cause all kinds of side effects, including depression and mood swings. It may be possible that the methylpred is causing many of the problems you are having. If they are very sever and are causing you alot of trouble or you are having any sort of thoughts about self harm, suicide or anything along those lines, contact your doctor as soon as you can. If you really feel suicidal or like you might hurt yourself, get with a loved one until you get talk to a doctor or have a loved one or friend take you to the ER if you feel you need help. If you symptoms arent that severe and are tolerable than continue to take it because steroids can do wonders for some types of pain (so there is some hope for you), especially if the pain has to do with inflammation. You can ask your pharmacist about the symptoms if you want while you are still taking the meds and see what he recommends you do. Otherwise make sure you tell your doctor about how you felt and see what he says.

I hope that you start feeling better and your mood lifts. Remember, if you feel like you might do something to hurt yourself get with a loved or friend until you can talk to a doctor (whether the ER if its that urgent, the one who prescribed the meds, or a psychiatrist). Just remember that life goes on and that your pain will be treated effectively and you will find relief, you just have to keep pushing on through it.

Good luck and I hope everyone has a pain-free day,
Circa
