    Default Darvocet, Vicodin.. ugh!

Well, here's my problem. I have a slight question about pain control. My problem is, is that I have to keep switching from Darvocet, to Vicodin.. Vicodin to Darvocet. And when it's time to switch, or either one of them isn't working anymore I have to call the nurse, and ask to switch. And every single time I have to explain to the nurse, why I need to switch. Because my doctor knows the "system" or my problem I guess. And when I need to switch he ushually prescribes me back to Vicodin or Darvocet or whatever. I wanted to know.. if this.. was ok to do? Because my body gets used to these two everytime in a mere 3-4 months. So basically every 3-4 months I have to switch to something else, and after that switch back. Is there.. something wrong with me, is.. this.. normal for people to do? Because right now, I'm going to switch back to Vicodin, because the Darvocet I'm on now, that I've been on for about 4 and a half months now isn't working anymore... it makes me wonder what is up with my body?!

Why even bother with Darvocet, it's basically useless, and really no more effective then Tylenol? Propoxyphene is 1/40 the strength of morphine, hydrocodone is .6 times as strong. If the switching works for you, fine, but why not, if you're going to switch, go to Tylenol with codeine. What doesn't make sense is usually (always) when something stronger isn't working you go to something stronger, not weaker, like Vicodin to Percocet. Even the FDA agrees that Propoxyphene is no more effective then acetaminophen, and they're talking about phasing it out.

And usually when Vicodin loses it's effectiveness, the first bump is from say a 5mg pill to a 10mg, or two 10's.
Did you think Darvocet is as effective as Vicodin? Maybe you can also ask to try Ultram. Tramadol (Ultram) and codeine are both 1/10 the strength of morphine.

    Hi Brandon
My doctor would switch me every few months also,
He would give me vicoden and then percocet.
I would build up a tolerance to all the pain meds he gave me.
I think that happens to everyone that takes them everyday.
    good luck to you, Melinda

I agree with Cats. Darvocet has to be the most worthless pain med I have ever taken. I prefer Ibuprofen to darvocet. Melinda ... your dr switching you over to percocet from hydro I understand totally, just as the example Cats gave, but using darvocet seems a waste of time and energy to me.
