FIRST, Try eating like 6 Taco Bell burrito Supremes. If that dont work, try SENNA w/Docusate Sodium. Thats what my generic bottle says. Sometimes Im too poor for Taco Bell

My roommate has chronic problems with constipation due to her pain meds. We found a simple solution for her in a recipe for Bran Muffins that a friend gave me. They have Bran, wheat germ, OatBran and a bunch of other stuff in them! Personally, I don't care for them, but she eats one or 2 a day and prestoooo, problem solved! If you want the recipe, let me know! [:I]

I take Vicodin 7.5/325 three times per day and stay regular with yummy "green smoothies".

I put one pear cut into chunks and one green Granny Smith apple, 2 large handfuls of baby spinich or baby romaine lettuce, 3 tablespoons honey, and 3 cups of water. Into my smoothie maker or blender if you have. A thick refreshing tasty drink.

Store in glass not plastic in the fridge up to 3 days.

I drink one cup in morning and afternoon. So good that I had some extra one day and had "the runs"[:0]

Any opioid will constipate and dry out fecal matter, try upping your H2O intake, for most people this is the easiest way without introducing more fiber into the diet. It could be you just don't ingest enough water to compensate for the use of the opioid.

Laxatives however just run the feces through you, what you want is a stool softener such as the docusate sodium (which I do believe can be procured OTC now), mentioned by another poster earlier on, laxatives get it moving faster though the bowel, stool softeners attract water to the bowel to make the stool softer and easier to pass.

Your doctor should have directed you to take a stool softener while you are taking an opiate pain killer - Senna-S (Commonly known as mush-n-push) is a stool softener w/ stimulant.

Consumption of fiber for this type of constipation is NOT recommended - fiber is a bulk forming laxative - it makes stool larger and this can actually make your problem worse.

I agree with Cowboy - increase you water intake - dont go crazy - 8x8 , consult your doctor - generally the best / first option for this kind of constipation is a stool softener or a stool softener w/ stimulant.
