HI!

I am a sixty-five year old grandmother, who up until January, was in better health than most women half my age!

In January, I developed a small rash on my right cheek. I went to the emergency room. Doctor on call that night said it looked like mersa, and prescribed 800 mg.'s of Clindamycin a day for 10 days.

What was a SMALL rash, turned into an all-over body rash that defies any attempt on my part to ease the itching and burning. I have been diagnosed with systemic lupus that is the worst case anyone has ever
seen! I have the best medical team around, but so far nothing has
helped.

My face and body looks like I had tried to build a campfire with jumper cables! I am in constant pain and the anxiety is like I have never experienced before in my life!

Could this extreme reaction be the result of the mega-dose of CLINDAMYCIN? It is bound to have killed all the "good" guys and left my ravaged body to fight the bad guys without interference! I have transformed from a vibrant, healthy, enthusiastic, positive person, into a woman who is so nervous she could file a chain saw with the motor on!!

Any information you can give about the side effects of CLINDAMYCIN may help me, or someone else that is dealing with the same thing!

Feed back please?

a luci tomlin

I googled it to get some info for you! I would google it and see if you can find what you are looking for specifically. I'm sure if anyone on here has any information on this they will post as soon as they see this. Good luck to you!

dear lucitee

You were originally diagnosed with MRSA(methicillin resistant staph aureus). This bacteria causes a skin infection known as cellulitis. This infection is called resistant because it cannot be treated with traditional penicillin antibiotics. Community Aquired MRSA is commonly treated with Clindamycin. The dose of clindamycin you received was not high.

Clindamycin like all antibiotics run the risk of having an allergic reaction. If your body mounts a serious enough reaction it is possible to result in lupus.
see the following web site:

Clindamycin its self is not associated with high incidence of Lupus, however, it is possible.

Clindamycin is associated with a serious skin condition known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
