Default clarithromycin

My son in law has pneumonia. He is on clarithromycin. About 1/2 hour after he takes the pill, he appears to be loopy, slurs his words and loses focus, and appears to be drunk..I cannot find any side effects that would cause this...Please feel free to email me...TY MAX

From the PDR information on Biaxin (clarithromycin)
http://www.drugs.com/PDR/Biaxin_Filmtab_Tablets.html

Transient CNS events including anxiety, behavioral changes, confusional states, convulsions, depersonalization, disorientation, hallucinations, insomnia, manic behavior, nightmares, psychosis, tinnitus, tremor, and vertigo have been reported during post-marketing surveillance. Events usually resolve with discontinuation of the drug.
