Default Citalopram side effects

Hi, i have recently been prescribed Citalopram for anxiety and depression. I have been taking 10mg a day for 4 days and then have been told to switch to 20mg a day. I am very worried about the side effects i have been experiencing, i am highly nauseous, disorientated, restless, not able to sleep or eat, and am feeling very low. Can you give me some information as to whether my symptoms are normal on this kind of drug? I am a 20 year old female.

Thank you

Default Some advice.

I'm not a 20 year old woman, but a 15 year old boy. I was prescribed citalopram for the same reasons as you. This was a long time ago though. I had similar symptoms. Nauseous, wouldn't or couldn't eat food, I would sleep two hours a night. It was aweful. Plus I have a high drug sensitiviity. Anyway. After this went on for sometime WE HAD TO SWITCH MEDICATIONS. You really have to tell your doctor about these symptoms if they continue for about a week or longer. Remember, it takes about four to six weeks for the drug to take effect and these symptoms may go away. It is when they don't that they become a serious problem. Besides, finding the right medication for depression was a long hard process. I'm still looking for the right pill. I've gone through seven medications in about a year. Right now I'm taking Welbutrin, Lexapro, and Serequil. Ask your doctors about those maybe?

Good luck,

James

Aldouglass88,
Jsabbs is right. Those are all common side effects of celexa. The best thing to do (as in any situation) is to notify your doctor so he/she can help you find a med that will work and that you both can live with. Also, do not try to stop the medication abruptly as it needs to be tapered. Your dcotor will help you with this also. Good luck.

So I am not alone with this... whew! I took my first dose (20 mg) of Celexa yesterday evening. My skin felt tingley and hot, my face was flushed bright red. Even though I was so hot, it was uncomfortable staying in the air conditioning. Outside, in the mild heat and humidity, felt best. My vision became blurred and nausea set in. Two sudden bouts of diarrea sent me running to the bathroom. All these symptoms improved within a few hours. I'm still feeling the nausea though and I'm relectant to go too far away from the bathroom. I plan on giving it two weeks to level out, but that plan could change after each dose, if this continues.
