I got a celtic armband tattoo 2 days ago and while I knew there would be some swelling, part of the swelling nearly extended to my elbow (4 inches from the tattoo). The puffy skin was light pink in color and the under part of my arm started to get red spots on it. I've washed it with mild soap, kept it moist, and did everything I've done with my other tattoos, so I don't know what's wrong. The place I went to was very clean and everything was sterile, so I dunno.

It's not particularly painful, and not burning hot to the touch, but I went in to the doctor, anyway. He didn't do any blood work or anything. Just put a bottle of cephalexin in my hand and shooed me out the door.

Has anyone every heard of this medication being used for an infected tattoo?? The swelling has continued a bit (I just started taking the medicine, today), but the tattoo doesn't really hurt at all, now. The dots I talked about only show up on the under side of my arm. Everything else is a tad swollen, but not any more than it should be. Help?
