Default Celexa - Anyone with a positive experience?

Most posts and discussions seem to veer towards the neagtive aspects people have from a particular drugs, which is to be expected, but I was recently prescribed Celexa, in an effort to help fight an anxiety problem that I have had for 7 or so years now.

I have managed to reduce teh amount of anxiety I have generally speaking, but there is always a layer of anxiousness just under the surface, and it still effects my decsion making when it comes to going places, and doing things with friends. Xanax is a life saver for me in these scenarios, but my doctor felt Celexa could help me deal with it better without having to rely upon Xanax.

Has anyone taken Celexa (or the generic of it, which is what I have) who had a postive experience? What mild side-effects, if any, did you have? I want to know before I try it. I am flying out of thr country in a few days, and have a good supply of xanax so that i can survive the long flights, but am hesitant to start a new drug before going away. I will likely wait until I get back to start the drug eiterh way, but am very interested to know how others have responded to it. Thanks for any and all responses.

My sister has been on Celexa for years. It worked great for her. No weight gain, no horrible side effects. The only thing is that she is constantly tired. The girl would sleep all day if she could. But it beats where she was before Celexa.

I have been taking Citalopram-(Celexa) now for approx. 2 months. Started at 20mg. and now take 40mg. From the onset of taking this med, I didn't have any side effects that I was aware of. The only side effect that I have recently encountered, would be fatigue, which seemed to begin after my dosage went up to 40mg. Overall, fatigue or the debilitating effects of anxiety & depression? That doesn't appear to be too hard to answer! HA! Seriously, Celexa has done wonders for me in the depression dept. Actually, I felt a difference within 1-2 weeks of being on it. Compared to approx. 6 other AD's that I had tried over the years, none of them either worked for me, or they made me feel worse! I'm glad that I stumbled upon this one and the fact that it actually helps me? I certainly hope this medication helps you as it did me. Best of luck to you~

I was on Citalopram for a while. I had NO negative side-effects from it in any way. It didn't do what my doctor had hoped, as far as treating my depression, but I can't say it ever made me feel sick or anything.

The psychiatrist took me off Celexa simply because it wasn't working, and seen as I also am on Cymbalta, an SNRI, he increased the dosage of that. In my case, it also had to do with the fact I take Cymbalta (Duluxatine) for pain in addition to OCD and depression. It won't take the pain away, but it does take some of the workload off the Hydrocodone.

The most side-effects occur when first starting an SSRI. When I began taking Paxil in 2002, I felt some nausea (not enough to throw up), some tiredness, and some mild indigestion. I am actually labeled "med-sensitive". I am one who is quite likely to have side-effects. I was able to handle Paraxotine (Paxil), so you most-assuredly will be just fine.
