Default Can I take Ultram & Prozac together?

I need advice from anyone who has taken these two drugs together, or from anyone that knows a great deal about drug interactions.....

I have been taking Ultram/tramadol on and off for a few years for back pain stemming from an accident a few years ago. After deciding to return to school, I was diagnosed with adult add/adhd. I was started on a combination of concerta and ritalin, which at first did some good. After a while, it's effect went down and i was starting to have some depression symptoms. This week, my doctor lowered my ritalin dose and gave me 10mg of prozac to take in conjunction with the ritalin. After reading my patient info.printout for the prozac, I saw that it recommends extreme caution when taking prozac with ultram. Granted, it also says to use exteme caution when taking tylenol and asprin too. My question is this....Is it toxic to take prozac and tramadol together, or is this a simple "warning" like what is found on the back of a tylenol bottle. Anyone ever taken tramadol and prozac together? After studying up on both drugs, I get the impression that they both kind of do the same thing. Prozac blocks seratonin absorbtion and tramadol blocks pain signals reabsorbtion. Am I wrong. Help.!!

taking tramadol (ultram) w/ any anti-depressant can be dangerous, and is not recommended. Ultram does adhere to some opiate receptors, blocking sensations of pain, but it also has some effects seritonin reuptake in much the same way that prozac does (though not as effectivly as prozac). mixing the two can lead to too much seritonin being left in the pre-synaptic gaps, a condition called seritonin syndrome, which can be fatal. symptoms of seritonin syndrome include headaches, seizures and comas, so be very careful.
