Default The "Bad Trip" Drug

I was told a few years ago by a friend who had quite a bit of experience with taking a little too much LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms, etc., that in the emergency room there's a drug that can be administered IV which immediately stops the hallucinogenic or disorienting effects of any type of illegal drug and immediately causes the user to "come down" from their unpleasant or psychotic high. My guess is that it is some sort of tranquilizer, like Valium, but then I really started to wonder. Was he correct? What drug is it, and how does it work?

If your on opiates then "yes" they can give you nalaxone or naltrexone which will nullify the opiates in your system. If you are addict to opiate then you will go into immediate withdrawls for a couple hours......Dave

What do they do in the ER for people who are completely out of control on a hallucinogenic drug like LSD or mushrooms?

"Some reports indicate that administration of chlorpromazine (Thorazine) or similar typical antipsychotic tranquilizers will not end an LSD trip, but rather will just immobilize and numb the patient While it also may not end an LSD trip, the best chemical treatment for a "bad trip" is an anxiolytic agent such as diazepam (Valium) or another benzodiazepine. Some have suggested that administration of niacin (nicotinic acid, vitamin B3) could be useful to."
