Default ativan .5mg vs. xanax .5mg vs. klonopin .5mg

I was being prescribed xanax .5mg 3 times daily for about 3 years. Last week I had a Dr. appt. and he switched me to ativan .5 mg 3 times daily. It seems like the ativan isn't doing anything for me. I still have anxiety/panic attacks and down right feel like ********************. What is the difference between these drugs?? I know they are all benzos, but why does the xanax and klonopin work and the ativan not work?? Any info. would be helpful. Thanks. Kevin.
