How many mgs of aspirin should I take a day to prevent heart attacks. I am in my 50's, healthy, and have never had a heart attack.

Usually a low dose in a 81mg pill.

My understanding (sort of backed up by http://www.americanheart.org/present...dentifier=4456) is that aspirin will help prevent a second heart attack and will help prevent a first in people with other risk factors, but it won't do much of anything for somebody who is healthy to start with.

Low dose aspirin therapy has been proven to help in the prevention of additional heart attacks for patients with heart problems. It also saves lives when administered to patients early in the process of an ongoing heart attack. You should consult with your dr prior to beginning a new therapy including aspirin to insure the medications you are contemplating using don't interfere with your current problems.
