I had been taking 100mg twice a day for a year when last March my legs became mottled looking. By the time my GP saw me, an ambulance was immediately ordered. My arms and legs were very purple, mottled, blood pressure was 80/48, I had chest pains, feeling very ill. A few hours in ER, a lot of tests (mainly for my heart) the docs decided it was a pretty harmless situation, deciding I had a virus and sent me home. I'm 42y, 105lbs, non-smoker and stay active, aside from having MS. I made inquiries if either the bacolfen or
amantadine I take could be the problem and was told no by both the drs and pharmacy. However, with MUCH research on the internet my husband found an article that related my symptoms directly to Amantadine. I then stopped taking it. This is 3 months after my first sypmtoms appeared. It took another 2 months for my appearance to return to normal and feel good. Last week my fatigue got the best of me and I started taking 100mg in the morning and the mottling returned. I just got back from my neurologist, she was mortified the hospital didn't catch it WAS amantadine and told me never to take it again. She noted it's not a common side effect but it is also not to be dismissed as it was. She is looking into what happen. Now I'm wondering do I need to worry about any long term damage? Where can I find more info on the condition I suffered? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Please repond by email to
