So after reading these forums all evening long I am wondering....how many of you are allergic to Methadone? My pain manag doc tried me on it last year during an insurance lapse from hubby switching jobs because it was dirt cheap. Well, I had a severe allergic reaction to it, was rushed to ER due to my throat swelling almost shut as did my extremities swell excessively to the point I was unable to walk. I have seen so many post good things about methadone but none so far about any allergic reaction?? Was my case more on the rare side? I do have other medication allergies as codiene and macrobid, and my kids are allergic to amoxicillan.
This is in no way an urgent question as my allergy is in all of my charts and at our local hosp and I know I can't take it , just more out of curiosity to any similar situations. I am always looking to learn!

Hi, I have been on Methadone for six years and I haven't ever talked with anyone who was allergic. I'm sure it happens though. especially with your reaction to codiene, which is another opiate. I hope you find the answer you need. Sorry I couldn't help more.
