Default addiction and respiratory depression

hey i was wondering if when the level of physical dependence on opiates changes in a person if the level of respiratory depression changes as well. For example if someone is highly tolerant to opiates will that person have less respiratory depression taking a certain dose of opiates than a non tolerant person?

Thanks!

Normally yes but respitory failure can still result from large doses. That's usually what kills cancer patients. They just keep upping their dose to cover the pain and eventually they just stop breathing.......Dave
