Default Adderall and weaning

Hello~ our 8 year old son just started adderall (10mg XR) and we have seen wonderful benefits. One of our concerns is how long would it take us to wean him off of this if a problem arises. Any information would be helpful...Thank you.

Aronandmelissa:

Before you go too far with your son, you may want to visit this site: http://www.geocities.com/speakupfork...ggingkids.html.

Thank you Miles...but this really wasn't helpful. Our son has been diagnosed with PDD (autism), ADHAD and Tic's...we have modified his diet (no wheat, dairy, caffeine, msg, caramel coloring, etc..) done countless behavior modifications and have seen more specialists than you can imagine. We did not choose med's as our first choice (they were offered to him 3 years ago and we declined)...we have been working to help him function in the real world since birth. We want our son to succeed and this was our last resort. So again...does anyone know how long it would take (or what process it takes) to wean an 8 year old off of this dose of medication if a problem would arise? Thank you.

This is probably something you have already done....but I would call several pharmacists to get this information....they know much more than doctors when it comes to medication. Good luck

Thank you! This actually wasn't something I thought to do...sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious to me. I will take the advice and use it well!
