I was wondering if valium was a derivative of the herb valerian root. I have often heard valerian called "natures valium.
Any info would be appreciated. [:I]
Valium is not an herb it is chemical derived I believe,if it were an herb we would have easy access to it being herbs cannot be regulated under the FDA.valium is considered a class III drug therefore being a controlled substance. So no they are two seperate entities.
Valerian is a natural herb while valium (diazepam) is a synthetic chemical compound. These two drugs have NO derivatisation relationship. The reason why Valerian is called "nature valium" is that both Valerian and valium can treat anxiety and insomnia, with valerian being a natural compound.
Diazepam (Valium) is a synthetic analouge to Valerien. That is to say, that while to the best of my knowledge Valium doesn't come from Valirien, the active comounds are chemically the same or at least, very simillar.
