Interactions between zidovudine and Adriamycin (DOXOrubicin)
zidovudine and DOXOrubicin (Moderate Drug-Drug)
GENERALLY AVOID: Doxorubicin has been shown to inhibit the phosphorylation of zidovudine to its active triphosphate form in vitro. The mechanism and clinical significance of this interaction is unknown. However, the potential for diminished antiretroviral activity of zidovudine should be considered. In addition, the myelotoxic effects of these agents may be additive when given in combination.
MANAGEMENT: The concomitant use of zidovudine and doxorubicin should be avoided.
