Interactions between xalatan(latanoprost ophthalmic) and Bimatoprost ophthalmic (bimatoprost ophthalmic)
latanoprost ophthalmic and bimatoprost ophthalmic (Moderate Drug-Drug)
MONITOR: The concomitant use of bimatoprost and latanoprost may result in paradoxical increases of intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma. Case reports of 3 patients have described IOP elevations of 6 to 23 mmHg 2 to 5 weeks after bimatoprost was added to a latanaprost regimen. Other factors (e.g., disease state, patient compliance) may have contributed to the IOP elevations. The mechanism is unknown, although the combination exceeded the dose-response curve which may have resulted in decreased efficacy.
MANAGEMENT: IOP should be closely monitored in patients receiving concomitant therapy.
