Interactions between tindamax(tinidazole) and Cholestyramine (cholestyramine)

Moderate Drug-Drug Interaction cholestyramine and tinidazole (Moderate Drug-Drug)

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Cholestyramine may bind to and decrease the oral bioavailability of nitroimidazoles. Data are limited. An in vitro study found no physicochemical interaction between metronidazole and cholestyramine when mixed in solution at pH 7.38 at various ratios. However, the bioavailability of metronidazole was reduced by 21% during coadministration with a 4 gram dose of cholestyramine in five healthy subjects. No data are available for tinidazole.

MANAGEMENT: To minimize the potential for interaction, patients should be advised to separate the times of administration of cholestyramine and the nitroimidazole by at least several hours.
